The Autopilot Digital Series electronic chlorine generator is one of the most highly-engineered salt pool systems. A technologically advanced salt chlorinator, it works with existing pump and filtration systems to reliably supply the swimming pool with pure chlorine, every day. In fact, the Digital controller can even be used to control the whole circulation system.  The Autopilot Digital Series offers a unique array of sensors, diagnostics, and control features. The Digital Series uses a low salt level and makes the pool water silky soft to provide the ultimate swimming experience.

The complete Autopilot Digital salt system has three main components: the Digital Power Supply (controls), the Electrolytic Cell, and the Bypass Manifold (plumbing and sensors), along with its miscellaneous hardware and documentation.  Autopilot offers three different size models, RC-35 (35,000 gallons), RC-42 (42,000 gallons), and RC-52 (52,000 gallons).

From Autopilot:

"With microprocessor controls, digital read-out of pool water temperature, current salt level, purifier production level, soft reverse cell cleaning cycle and boost cycle, the Pool Pilot Digital is a technologically advanced unit. The easy-to-read digital readout on this in-line unit even tells you how much salt to add should it run low. The Pool Pilot Digital has a patented temperature compensation feature that actually adjusts chlorine production according to the demands of the water temperature and operates in water temperatures up to 104F. It can purify pools up to 67,000 gallons and has a built-in time clock to control your pool pump...all at the touch of a button."

check your connections
Replacing an old autopilot ap supercell system which failed because of corrosion on the contact posts where the cell plugs on. This looks like it might have the same problem, make sure you put some dialectric grease on yours if you haven't yet.

AutoPilot
I've always been satisfied with my AutoPilot salt water chlorinators. Second pool I've had and I'm sticking with it.

Why so much
It's installed, the pool is clean, but my neighbor got his kind of system for half as much and even though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles this one does I think this is kind of a rip off.
